2. Personal Data We Process

The Controller may process personal data voluntarily provided by users, including in particular:

Payment details are processed directly by payment service providers, such as Stripe. Urban Knowledge does not normally receive or store complete payment-card details.

If you subscribe to the Urban Knowledge newsletter, your e-mail address may be processed for the purpose of sending educational content, information about products and services, and marketing communications.

When you use the website, certain technical information may also be processed through analytics, security and marketing technologies. This may include information about your device, browser, IP address and activity on the website.

Depending on the purpose, personal data may be processed on the following legal bases:

  • Article 6(1)(b) GDPR – where processing is necessary for the performance of a contract or to take steps at the user’s request before entering into a contract;
  • Article 6(1)(c) GDPR – where processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation;
  • Article 6(1)(f) GDPR – where processing is necessary for the legitimate interests of the Controller, including website security, customer service, protection against fraud, establishment or defence of legal claims, and certain forms of direct marketing;
  • Article 6(1)(a) GDPR – where the user has given consent, particularly in relation to newsletters, non-essential cookies, analytics or marketing technologies where consent is legally required.

Where processing is based on consent, the user may withdraw that consent at any time.


5. Recipients of Personal Data

Personal data may be shared with entities supporting the operation of Urban Knowledge where this is necessary.

These may include:

  • payment service providers, including Stripe,
  • hosting providers,
  • website and IT service providers,
  • accounting or bookkeeping service providers,
  • e-mail and newsletter service providers,
  • analytics providers,
  • advertising and marketing platforms, including Meta Platforms where applicable,
  • security and fraud-prevention providers,
  • public authorities where disclosure is required by law.

Personal data is not sold to third parties.

Third parties receive personal data only to the extent necessary to provide the relevant service or fulfil applicable legal obligations.


6. Transfers Outside the European Economic Area

Some service providers used by Urban Knowledge may process personal data outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including in the United States.

Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, such transfers are carried out in accordance with applicable GDPR requirements.

Depending on the recipient and destination, appropriate transfer mechanisms may include:

  • an adequacy decision issued by the European Commission,
  • participation of an eligible recipient in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework,
  • Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission,
  • another legally recognised transfer mechanism.

Where required, additional safeguards may also be applied.

Personal data is retained only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected or as required by applicable law.

Depending on the type of processing, data may be retained:

  • for the duration of the contractual relationship,
  • for the period required by accounting and tax regulations,

  • until consent is withdrawn where processing is based on consent,
  • until a valid objection is raised where processing is based on legitimate interests,
  • for the period necessary to maintain website security and technical records.

Different categories of personal data may therefore be subject to different retention periods.

Subject to the conditions set out in the GDPR, you may have the right to:

  • access your personal data and obtain a copy of it,
  • rectify inaccurate or incomplete personal data,
  • request the deletion of your personal data,
  • request restriction of processing,
  • receive certain personal data in a portable format,
  • object to certain processing,
  • withdraw your consent at any time where processing is based on consent,
  • lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority.

Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the consent was withdrawn.

9. Right to Lodge a Complaint

If you believe that your personal data is being processed in violation of applicable data protection law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority.

10. Voluntary Provision of Personal Data

Providing personal data is generally voluntary.

However, certain information may be necessary to:

  • subscribe to a newsletter.

Failure to provide information necessary for these purposes may make it impossible to provide the relevant service.
